2026 Conservation Update (updated 27 April 2026): The interior of Belvedere House is currently closed while Phase 3 works progress — mechanical, electrical, painting and furnishing. Westmeath County Council expects the house to reopen to the public later in 2026. On 9 April 2026 the Westmeath Examiner reported a fresh €200,000 grant to advance the conservation projects, on top of the €1.1m operating provision and €150,000 capital allocation in the 2026 Council budget. The gardens, parkland, Visitor Services Centre, restaurant, gift shop, playgrounds and the Jealous Wall all remain open during conservation. Always confirm current status on belvedere-house.ie before travelling.

Opening Hours 2026

Directions & Parking

Belvedere House is approximately 5 km south of Mullingar on the N52, on the eastern shore of Lough Ennell.

Parking is free on the estate. Spaces are large and well-marked. Coach parking is available.

Accessibility

The Visitor Services Centre, main paths around the walled garden, and restaurant are wheelchair-accessible. Some of the longer woodland trails are rough and may not be fully accessible. Accessible toilets are located at the Visitor Services Centre.

Visiting with Children

Belvedere is especially good for families — four play areas including a 30-metre zip line, the Fairy Garden, wide-open parkland, woodland wildlife and the Jealous Wall story. Allow 3–4 hours for a relaxed family visit; more if children want multiple goes on the zip line.
